  • Hardwood History

The 1988-1989 Seton Hall Pirates started their season in championship fashion, going 3-0 and claiming the Great Alaska Shootout title with wins over Utah, Kentucky, and Kansas.  Their winning ways continued throughout the season as the Pirates went 26-6 heading into the the NCAA Tournament.

Once there they wasted little time making their mark.  Wins over Missouri State, Evansville, Indiana, and UNLV landed SHU in the Final Four in a matchup with Duke.  After dispatching the Blue Devils 95-78 they faced Michigan in what became one of the greatest championship games in the history of the tournament. Order these iconic 1989 Seton Hall Blue and White Basketball Shorts!

"That was just a special team.  You didn't want it to end."

1989 Seton Hall Got Robbed Of A Championship

Seton Hall should have won the 1989 NCAA Championship, but a phantom foul was called on the Pirates which gave Michigan free throws down by one with three seconds left. Michigan’s Rumeal Robinson sank two free throws with 3 seconds left to give Michigan 80-79 title win.
