Michigan State 1989-1990

Hardwood History

The 1989-90 Michigan State Spartans entered the season unranked and unthought of in regards to the Big Ten Championship race. By the end of the season they were 28-6, Big Ten Champs and a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Legendary MSU head coach Jud Heathcote was armed with one of college basketball's most deadly weapons.  A 6'7 silky smooth shooting guard named Steve Smith.  Smith led the Spartans all year with averages of 20-7-5 and was the catalyst of 12 game win streak at the end of the season that secured the conference title and the #1 seed.

Michigan State reached the Sweet 16 where they fell 81-80 to Georgia Tech's Lethal Weapon 3 trio of Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott and Brian Oliver.
