Ralph Willard's Western Kentucky Hilltoppers finished the 1992-1993 regular season 21-5.  Three more wins including a 72-63 victory over #13 ranked New Orleans gave WKU the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

As the #7 seed in the Southeast Region, Western's first opponent was #10 seed Memphis State and their super frosh Penny Hardaway.  A strong 2nd half pushed the Hilltoppers past the Tigers, 55-52.  Waiting for them in the 2nd round was the #2 seed Seton Hall Pirates with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.

While the college basketball pundits weren't giving WKU much of a chance, Coach Willard felt really good about his team and the matchup with SHU.  Led by Mark Bell's 20 points Western Kentucky pulled off the upset, 72-68 earning their spot in the Sweet 16.

"We felt confident going into the game that if we followed our game plan we would be all right.  It's like a dream game for us, playing a Big East team- playing a great team- but played our hearts out and came out on top."

If you’re a big fan of the Tops, like me, or an alum and you love a clean, retro look, then these are the shorts for you!

Love them!

I got these shorts for my husband’s birthday (he’s been wanting them since they came out). He got his Masters at WKU. The quality is great! Thicker material. And he especially loved that the shorts had pockets!
