  • Hardwood History

Roger Reid's BYU Cougars entered the 1990-91 season with high hopes after making the NCAA Tournament the year before.  They also had a new addition.  A 7 foot 6 inch new addition.  Shawn Bradley came to BYU as a McDonald's All-American and one of the most successful high school players in the history of state of Utah.  He didn't disappoint.

Bradley led the Cougars in points, rebounds and blocks while the team went 17-12 heading into the WAC Tournament.  Entering the WAC Tournament, BYU appeared to be on the wrong side of the bubble.  That all changed after wins over Colorado State, Hawaii and #8 Utah to take conference championship and punch their ticket to the Big Dance.

BYU earned the #10 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament where they took down #7 Virginia before losing to #2 seed Arizona.  Bradley, wouldn't play for the Cougars again.  After going on a 2 year mission he declared for the 1993 NBA Draft where he was selected with the #2 overall pick.
