Ask any Wichita State fan who was alive at the time what happened on March 20, 1981 and you'll get your answer. "We rocked K.U." Long time rivals who rarely get the opportunity to play each other, Kansas and Wichita State met in front of 34,036 spectators at the Superdome in New Orleans for the Sweet 16. Led by Antoine Carr and Cliff Levingston the Shockers were MVC champs but it was the Kansas game that would define their season.
With WSU down 1 Mike Jones gave the Shockers the 66-65 upset on a 25 foot jumper with only 2 seconds remaining.
Lost in the memory is the fact that Wichita State was able to play 2 home games against #11 Southern and #3 Iowa in the heart of Shocker Country at Levitt Arena.
Our Shocker Country shirt is a replica of Levitt Arena's half-court during that magical '81 season.
