Crispus Attucks 1955-56

Hardwood History

In an 8 year span (1950-57), the Tigers won 6 regional championships, 4 semi-state championships, and back-to-back state championships in 1955 and 1956, going undefeated during the ‘56 season.  The 1955 team is believed to be the first all-black champion of any open state tournament in the United States.

How dominant was Crispus Attucks during those years?  They won so often that their fans created what became known as their “Victory Song.”  When the game was near the end and the outcome no longer in doubt, the Tiger cheerleaders and fans would break out the “Crazy Song”...

“Oh, Tech is rough.

And Tech is tough.

They can beat everybody.

But they can’t beat us.

Hi-de, hi-de, hi-de, Hi...

Hi-de, hi-de, hi-de, Ho

That’s the skip, bob, beat-um.

That’s the crazy song.”

A portion of the proceeds from each shirt sold is given back to Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, IN.
