Muncie Central Bearcats
The Muncie Central Bearcats have won eight Indiana boys basketball state championships, the most of any school in Indiana. Their first came in the first ever state championship game held at Butler (Hinkle) Fieldhouse in 1928. Legendary coach “Pete” Jolly won another in 1931.
The Bearcats won back-to-back titles twice, doing it in ‘51 and ‘52 and again in ‘78 and ’79. In between those 4 titles was another championship in 1963, when Muncie Central avenged their only loss of the season, defeating South Bend Central 65-61. The Bearcats had to beat two Indiana high school legends (Damon Bailey & Shawn Kemp) in the semifinal and final to make it "8 in '88!"
This shirt represents their iconic row of eight championship banners hanging above the court in their rafters.
