Rhode Island Rams 1998-1999
The 1998-1999 Rhode Island Rams were coming off the heels of an Elite 8 run but had lost a lot of firepower in seniors Cuttino Mobley and Tyson Wheeler. Enter Lamar Odom. The do it all super sophmore put together season averages of 17.6 ppg and 9.4 rpg for Jim Harrick's Rams.
After going 17-12 in the regular season URI entered the A-10 tourney on the wrong side of the NCAA Tournament bubble. To make the tournament they would have to play themselves in by winning the A-10. The Rams made short work of La Salle and George Washington setting up a showdown in the championship game with A-10 regular season champ, Temple.
A close game throughout, Rhode Island found itself with the ball and 6 seconds left after a missed Pepe Sanchez 3 and Odom rebound. After a timeout the Rams inbounded the ball to Odom just past halfcourt. He took a few dribbles up court to his left, stopped on a dime, rose up and buried a 3 with no time remaining! Rhode Island was dancing!
"I can't even explain how I feel. I didn't know it was in until it was in. I just let it go."
