19nine’s Legacy Collection dives inside the archives to bring back some college basketball classics. Like the originals, we crafted each Legacy pair of retro shorts with the materials and details to honor the original designs. It was a labor of love in our pursuit to provide an era specific keepsake that celebrates the most iconic styles in college basketball history.
The 1988-1989 Seton Hall Pirates started their season in championship fashion, going 3-0 and claiming the Great Alaska Shootout title with wins over Utah, Kentucky, and Kansas. Their winning ways continued throughout the season as the Pirates went 26-6 heading into the the NCAA Tournament.
Once there they wasted little time making their mark. Wins over Missouri State, Evansville, Indiana, and UNLV landed SHU in the Final Four in a matchup with Duke. After dispatching the Blue Devils 95-78 they faced Michigan in what became one of the greatest championship games in the history of the tournament.
"That was just a special team. You didn't want it to end."
