  • Hardwood History

The UCLA Bruins men's basketball team made it to the Final Four of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in both the 1970 and 1971 seasons.

In 1970, UCLA won the National Championship by defeating Jacksonville University in the title game. The team was led by head coach John Wooden and players such as Lew Alcindor (later known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), Sidney Wicks, and Curtis Rowe.

In 1971, UCLA made it to the Final Four once again but lost to the University of Villanova in the semifinal round. The team was still led by Wooden, but Alcindor had graduated and was no longer on the team. Players such as Wicks, Rowe, and Henry Bibby helped lead the Bruins to the Final Four that year.
