Wake Forest 1994-1995
In 1995, Wake Forest won its first Atlantic Coast Conference championship in 33 seasons. While Tim Duncan is the name most synonymous with Wake basketball, it was senior All-American Randolph Childress who lit the ACC Tournament on fire.
Childress scored 40 against Duke, 30 against Virginia and 37 against North Carolina in one of the greatest performances in ACC Tournament history. 3 of those came on one of the most memorable college basketball plays of the '90s.
After crossing up Tar Heel guard, Jeff McInnis, Childress took the time to motion to him to "get up" before draining a 3 with Jerry Stackhouse running at him. He later hit a 10 foot floater to win the game and break the ACC Tournament scoring record.
“The total unbridled joy and emotion of the championship-starved Wake fans — that’s what comes to mind. That’s what I remember. I was aware of that the moment the championship was secure.”
