Pete Gillen's 1992-1993 Xavier Musketeers entered the season looking to improve upon their prior years record of 15-12. And they did just that going 20-4 to capture the Midwest Collegiate Conference regular season crown.
The '93 Musketeers had four future NBA players on the roster. None more important that PF Brian Grant. Grant averaged over 18 points per game while pulling down 9 boards to earn MWC Player of the Year.
After losing to Evansville in the MWC Tournament, Xavier was awarded the #9 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament. Their first opponent was #8 seed New Orleans who was also ranked 17th in the country coming into the game. Led by Grant's double-double and 17 points from Jamie Gladden, Xavier dominated New Orleans, 73-55.
Waiting for Xavier in the 2nd round was the #1 ranked Indiana Hoosiers. Xavier nearly pulled off the upset of the tournament before falling, 73-70.
