Billy Donovan entered his second season as head coach of the Florida Gators with a very young and inexperienced team. What he did have for the 1997-1998 was a superstar in the making, Jason Williams. Williams sat out the previous year after transferring from Marshall but the 6'1 guard from Belle, West Virginia wasted little time making an impact once he was allowed to play.
The Gators went 12-8 with Williams on the floor as he led Florida in scoring and assists. When J-Will left Florida he ranked among the SEC's best in seven statistical categories for the '97-98 season.
