  • Hardwood History

After a one-year hiatus from the Final Four, Mike Krzyzewski's 1993-1994 Duke Blue Devils were ready to reclaim their spot amongst college basketball's elite.

The '94 team was led by Grant Hill, who was an All-American averaging 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assist. Supported by Jeff Capel, Antonio Lang and Cherokee Parks Duke won the ACC regular season title.

Once in the NCAA Tournament Duke used tough defense to smother its opponents. Wins over Texas Southern and Michigan State put the Blue Devils in the Sweet 16.

After beating Marquette 59-49 to reach the Elite 8, Duke faced off with 1-seed Purdue and National Player of the Year Glenn Robinson. It was Duke and their superstar Hill that owned the night. Robinson went 6-for-22, and the Blue Devils won 69-60.

In Charlotte, Duke found itself down 7 at half before Hill took over. He finished with a 25, 6 and 6 to help the Blue Devils win 70-65 and setup a showdown with Arkansas for the National Championship.

With the game tied at 70, Arkansas’ Scotty Thurman made a three-point shot that ended up being the decisive blow in Arkansas’ 76-72 win.
