Hardwood History
The 1986-87 Xavier Musketeers were led by high scoring junior Byron Larkin's 25 points per game. The Musketeers got into the NCAA Tournament by winning the MCC Tournament with wins over Butler, Loyola and Saint Louis earning them a #13 seed in the Midwest.
Once there, head coach Pete Gillen and Larkin's 29 points, delivered Xavier University its first ever NCAA Tournament win by beating #4 seed Missouri 70-69.
The Musketeers would fall to #5 seed Duke in the Round of 32 but not before laying the foundation of things to come for Xavier basketball.
