  • Hardwood History

The Tennessee Volunteers entered the 2007-2008 season with a No. 7 preseason ranking.  Led Chris Lofton's 15.5ppg the Vols had a balanced attack and a deep bench.  JaJuan Smith, Tyler Smith, Wayne Chism, Ramar Smith and J.P. Prince all played their roles and helped catapult Tennessee to a No. 1 ranking in February after beating then #1 Memphis.

It was the first time being ranked #1 in school history.  "It was a great night for college basketball and for the state of Tennessee" said head coach Bruce Pearl after the game.

After going 29-4 and being the SEC regular season champions the Vols earned a #2 seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament.  Two wins over American and Butler put UT in the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in school history.  The season would end in defeat at the hands of #3 seed Louisville.
