Founded in 1966, Five-Star was the brainchild of two New York City basketball junkies, Howard Garfinkel and Will Klein, who shared a common passion and purpose: To create a top-notch teaching camp and help kids improve their games
The '91-92 UMass Minutemen entered the season unranked and off the national radar. That was before John Calipari's team went 24-4 and 13-3 in conference to become the A-10 regular season champs. UMass also won the conference tournament and entered the NCAA Tournament ranked 17th in the country which was good enough for a #3 seed in the East Regional.
The Minutemen made short work of their first round opponent, Fordham, before running into Big EAST juggernaut Syracuse. Led by Jim McCoy's 24 point performance, UMass escaped with a 77-71 overtime victory to reach the Sweet 16.
